Counselor and Parenting Group Facilitator:
Johara has been part of the Family Visions team for over a year. She is an accomplished Bush Leadership Fellow and was recognized for her research and service to clients while at the Center for Victims of Torture. She holds a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Adler Graduate School in Richfield, Minnesota, and sees clients in both the Fridley and St. Cloud offices.
Johara works diligently to provide consistent, appropriate mental health services to her clients, and to assist Somali and Oromo refugee and immigrant mothers with parenting skills that will assist and enhance their families’ success in their new communities in the U.S. Her hope is to see people in the immigrant and refugee community understand and access mental health services in a more deliberate way.
Johara works with individuals, couples, and families, and enjoys working with children ages 10-17 years of age. She emphasizes restoring communication and mending broken relationships within families. She speaks Oromo, Amharic, Arabic, Somali, and English.
